October Essentials - My Top 4 Beauty Buys

Recent trips to Dallas and Vegas means I've indulged in numerous trips to Sephora this year. One of the highlights of every trip to The States, in my opinion, is the opportunity to splurge a ridiculous amount of money in the beauty mecca that is Sephora. And rightly so. Stocking a variety of amazing beauty brands that we in the UK have extremely limited access to, or are required to sell a kidney in order to pay the custom charges for, means that when you get the chance, it's always best to stock up.

One of the best ways to test out new products from Sephora, is by purchasing from their extensive mini's or 'travel-sized' collection. Pretty much every iconic beauty product worth its salt can be found in this section, allowing you to test out these items without committing to spending on the full-size version. It was with this in mind, that I purchased the mini Smashbox Photo Finish Primer. Smoothing the skin's surface and providing the ideal base for your foundation, this lightweight primer is more than worthy of its cult status. Lending a matte, velvety finish, this effectively prolongs your base, and has become a daily addition to my beauty regime since purchasing in September.

Next up is Too Faced's Candlelight Glow Highlighter in Rosy Glow.  Now I'll unashamedly admit that I'm obsessed with highlighters. The most beautiful one I've ever used was actually a shadow called Silk Teddy, from the Too Faced Natural Eyes Palette. The colour and texture were perfection, giving an amazing glowy shine which lasted the full day. However having used this shade up, and refusing to buy an entire new palette just for this one shade, I decided to try out the Candlelight Glow by means of a replacement. Now this compact is actually two shades in one, one half a golden hue and the other a rosy shade. They can be used one half at a time or, as I do, mixed together to blend the two. A good alternative which does exactly as the name suggests, giving your skin the kind of glow which can only usually be achieved by super soft candlelight.

Now to my final October essential, which actually wasn't purchased at Sephora, but instead M.A.C. I feel as though its reputation precedes this one, and due to it's constant turnover and sell out status both in-store and online, its popularity shows no sign of waning. Velvet Teddy is an ideal choice for autumn/winter, with its warm brown tones perfectly offset with Spice when used to line. Despite the matte finish, I'd actually say it's more of a semi-matte as opposed to the chalky composition of many pure mattes, this actually isn't too drying when worn all day, and is the perfect everyday shade, teamed with either a slick of mascara or a matching taupe shadow. This and Twig are proving to be some of my all time favourites...
